With the New Year came the new law in New York State that took effect January 1st, 2017. This new law could potentially keep your vehicle off the road for a bit. As of January 1st New York State Registered Inspection stations must now check the tint on your windows as part of the yearly safety inspection. For Sedans your front door's and back door's window's tint must allow 70 % of the light in or your vehicle will not pass inspection. Non reflective tint is allowed on the top 6 inches of your windshield. Any dark tint is allowed on the back window. For SUV's your front door windows must allow 70 % of the light in. Your back door windows and back window can be any dark tint, and non reflective tint is allowed the top 6 inches of your windshield. There is no metallic tint allowed on the front or back door windows of sedans nor SUV's. New York does allow darker tint on your windows if it is a medical necessity. You would have to have a form filled out by your doctor and approved by New York State Department of Motor Vehicles.
